Position Overview:

We are seeking a Field Operations and EH&S Manager to oversee all on-site activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations at Carba’s pyrolysis sites. This role is responsible for managing field personnel, maintaining EH&S (Environmental Health & Safety) compliance, and fulfilling all reporting and documentation requirements. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is ready to take full ownership of field operations. This role will report to the Head of Operations.

Objectives and Responsibilities:

Site Operations Management

  • Fully accountable for all day-to-day field activities at Carba’s pyrolysis sites.

  • Manage a team of operators and technicians to conduct biomass feedstock intake, equipment operation, and material shipments to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient operations.

  • Establish and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for field teams.

  • Direct and supervise on-site personnel, ensuring alignment with operational goals and safety procedures.

EH&S Compliance and Documentation

  • Oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) programs, ensuring adherence to all regulations and best practices.

  • Maintain and enforce safety protocols, risk assessments, and emergency response plans.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as carbon credit registries.

  • Develop data collection, record keeping, and reporting systems for safety and compliance tracking.

Operational Optimization & Performance Monitoring

  • Implement processes to consistently meet product and project specifications.

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements in field operations.

  • Develop performance metrics and reporting tools to track site productivity and safety compliance.

Team Leadership & training

  • Hire, train, and manage a high-performing field operations team.

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

  • Provide coaching and professional development opportunities for field personnel.

Skills and Qualifications:

Required

  • Hands-on experience in operations leadership, production management, and team supervision.

  • Knowledge of EH&S regulations, permitting, and compliance reporting.

  • Proven track record in developing SOPs and managing site documentation.

  • 5+ years of experience in field operations, plant management, industrial manufacturing, or biomass processing.

  • Self-motivated, thrives in small team environment and likes challenges

  • Organized and accountable

  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive problem solver.

Preferred

  • Experience with biomass processing, pyrolysis systems, or industrial-scale material handling.

  • Familiarity with carbon credit registries, sustainability reporting, and MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) processes.

  • Startup experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent demonstrated experience

This role will be on-site in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota and require up to 20% of time traveling when necessary.
